Shadelands Ranch Museum

If you haven't yet been to the Shadelands Ranch Museum, you're missing out! It is located at 2660 Ygnacio Valley Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94598. Established in 1856, this historic site is one of the first large farms in the Ygnacio Valley. Founded by Hiram Penniman, the museum traces the history of this unique piece of California history. It's located in downtown Walnut Creek. It's free to visit. While you're there, you'll learn about the history of the land and about its history.
The Shadelands Ranch Museum is part of a National Register of Historic Places listing. It was originally a ranch built in 1856 by an early Walnut Creek pioneer, Hiram Penniman. Hiram owned 500 acres of fruit orchards in the Ygnacio Valley and married Carrie Morris. Their daughter Mary was born there, and the two of them moved to the Shadelands. The restored house and grounds of the historic home are now operated by the Walnut Creek Historical Society.  To find out more.
The church-related Shadelands ranch house has been a historical landmark in Walnut Creek for more than a century. In the year 1856, Hiram Penniman purchased the land and built a colonial-style home for himself and his family. He married Carrie Morris in 1850 and had four children. She died at the age of 39, leaving behind four children. The couple donated the shadelands ranch house to the community, and it is now maintained by the Walnut Creek Historical Society.
The Shadelands Ranch Historical Museum was originally built in 1856. It was later donated to the city of Walnut Creek and it has been open to the public since 1972. The house features original furniture made by Penniman. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The Shadelands Ranch Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places. The main house was built by Hiram Penniman in 1856. After Penniman died, his wife, Mary, and their four children lived in the house. They eventually donated the home to the city in 1972 and opened the museum in 1971. The building and the ranch house were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
The Shadelands was originally managed by the Gospel Foundation, which continued to operate the ranch and property after her death. The church later donated the property to the city. The Walnut Creek Historical Society continues to manage the Shadelands, and the museum was opened to the public in 1972. The restored house is furnished with the original Penniman furniture. The museum is a great place to have a wedding and to learn about the history of the town.  More history.Home
